Former Real Madrid coach discusses the current conditions of his team
Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello said Zinedine Zidane’s departure this summer was due to his fear of being fired by club president Florentino Perez.
Zidane announced his departure in June following the team’s third consecutive title in the Champions League.
“Zidane understood that if he did not win the Champions League for the fourth time, he would have been fired,” Capello said in an interview with La Gazzetta. “He was already close to that because of his league results.”
“The departure of Zidane and Ronaldo has created a rift in the club that will not be easy to fix. The fans are not easy to pick up. It will not be easy to make up for the departure of two names like that and winning trophies.”
Capello praised Bloca Modric, the Real Madrid star, and stressed the difficulty of leaving the team to Inter in the coming days, despite talk about negotiations between the player and the Italian club.
“Modric and Kanti were the best in the last World Cup. He is a world player and his influence over time is amazing. I remember when we met Croatia and I am a coach for England, he was playing as a right wing,” said Capello.
